When I Look Back
We said "I Do," but you meant I don't,
I said, "I Will," you meant, "I won't,"
At first things were good, then everything
went haywire, then cold replaced, that
seductive fire.
What a mess we have created, you and I,
our foundation of love, was all a lie.
Trapped in a cage with someone I don't know,
looking for an escape, I married a pro.
My time is coming, I will run for the hills,
you keep all the money, and leave me the bills.
This arrangement we have, is not working out,
you have the bed, and I have the couch.
Never an invite to go out on the town,
but I'm happy here, you keeping me down.
If you treated me this way when we first met,
a second date, you would never get.
When I leave you ,and face this world,
I will look back a woman, instead of a foolish
little girl.
