When Heart Takes Flight

You walk toward me. I think: This is the night! My teenage heart begins to thump thump thump. I swear it feels like it has taken flight because I feel it take a giant jump and then my heart is soaring to some place of utterly fantastical delight. You’re in my arms and I can touch your face. Two lovely long-lashed eyes black like the night are gazing tenderly back INTO me - into my heart, into my very soul, and you, dear golden boy, are all I see. You are the missing part that makes me whole. I smile. You simply nod when I say hi. I plummet back to earth – again passed by. July 2, 2022 (School dance angst. Happened every dance time!!)

How delightfully true...I think at that tender age, those dances brought hopeful new heights, where coming down was a bit of a heartache. :)Paulette

I feel your pain. You know how much I hated those dance nights, I never danced unless with my sisters or friends. I only danced with the losers and they thought I was the loser, telling me that I wasn't as pretty as the other girls.

You were always pretty and never a loser, Jenny.

Nothing like reminiscing in bliss of youth--romantic page from your album, Andrea. You don't ever need luck to win, your pen does magic.

Pheromones are certainly a kicker! In 7th grade, there was a Swedish exchange student named Beth Aanneson, who could walk up behind me and light my fires before I could even see her! Good luck in the contest! Aloha!

Your youthful disappointment is palpable at the end of this fine poem, Andrea. Best wish for Chantelle's contest.

yeah, I never did get that golden boy's attention. I found out years later he actually moved out to Utah too. I saw an ad for his chiropractor practice in Salt Lake, Damn, he was still so good looking in his 60's. hahaha.
