When Heart Takes Flight
You walk toward me. I think: This is the night!
My teenage heart begins to thump thump thump.
I swear it feels like it has taken flight
because I feel it take a giant jump
and then my heart is soaring to some place
of utterly fantastical delight.
You’re in my arms and I can touch your face.
Two lovely long-lashed eyes black like the night
are gazing tenderly back INTO me -
into my heart, into my very soul,
and you, dear golden boy, are all I see.
You are the missing part that makes me whole.
I smile. You simply nod when I say hi.
I plummet back to earth – again passed by.
