What Matters Most

What Matters Most
What matters most is obvious to me. It’s hearth and home, kin and family. Life is an hourglass and the sands of your time keep drifting down - drifting, drifting, drifting downward as you race to get in all the things you want to do! But take time to breathe in the things you love: fresh baked bread, roses, the petrichor of spring! Simple are life’s joys. Give all you love to all those you love, for that will be your legacy when your sands run out and the hourglass turns over. Petrichor is quite an interesting word. Never had heard of it before until now.

Does the glass turn over to a new life, like a rebirth? Is that your objective here?

A perfect expression of how love envelops all that is precious and worthwhile. Your final lines are as elegant as any expression I've ever heard or read of the transition impending for us all.

Both form and poem are awesom. Hope you place well. Thanks for the compliment on "Mr. Cave". I do not like those long lines and try to avoid them. My computer is old, or I do not know how to set the lines properly. ????????????????

Like I used to tell my kids, "take time to smell the petrichor of spring"! I LOVE this so much, on so many levels. The message, the shape, the vocab, the emphasis on the simple joys of life and the loved ones around us. Great write, a fave! Hugs ~ John
