Old Note- Inspired by book I read. A very sad tale of an old man dying alone in a cabin, deep in the wilderness. Having lived his last years enjoying Nature's beauty and the inner peace that often comes from its magnificence and solitude. He having lived a great and wild life when young but dying alone , having no children and self-exiled from his friends, saw the sad truth in his last days..

New Note-  Sharing this taken from one of my private journals. Looking back I I see that this was written a few months after my 14 year old baby brother's electrocution death.. Trying to remember how much of that went into this piece....

What Matters, Should One See Past That Last Mile What matters, diamonds , silver or gold when one is getting slow and too damn old. What matters, if the truest of truths be told, that dying alone is so sad and cold? What matters, if life yields no more ripe fruits when one will soon visit soil and grass roots. What matters, if ones buried without boots, or if one can dies with life's stolen loot? What matters, if blue skies no longer smile and one sees the past, world's evil and guile. What matters, should one see past that last mile, or hold on harder just a little while? Love, Family and Life is what matters Without Love, all is thin glass that shatters. R. J. Lindley, October 17th, 1976 Sonnet, ( Deepest depths of Love are, purest of Truths)

I am sorry about the loss of your brother, Robert - I am sure much of that went into the frame of mind that created this deep, profound poem.

Indeed, dear Robert. Your precious closing couplet illustrates the shining truth in its depths of emotion and appreciation for the loving ties we share in life. Your poem shows that receiving Love and giving Love is so essential for well-being on every level.. without which we drift off, alone in life as well as in death - such a very sad state to find oneself in. A beautiful, contemplative poem that will linger on my mind, my wonderful friend and I'm so sorry to hear of your brother's tragic passing.. Warmest wishes always.. ~Susan
