We Looked

I looked down There it was, All that we had ever hoped to find. The many, many times we had been to this gravel quarry, Together –hand in hand All the hard work and wonderful moments, Searching, digging, hope upon hope to find just such a rock, However, it is much more than just a rock! It was just as we had pictured in our minds. A black, smooth, shining surface with little sparkles That caught light, Like bits of diamond dust. It had fallen to earth maybe a million years ago. A small piece of a distant star! We had looked for it half our lives You and I –together, we searched Never giving up hope of the find, Talking about what we would do with it after we -- I looked down There it was, All we had ever wanted to find- It is still there- Where it laid for It was nothing without you.
