Note:
A look back , at fleeting shadows and morns brilliantly bright.
At summer skies and love under moonlight and heavenly skies.
At lost treasures, gems one can wonder at having ever been able to hold.
At youthful folly, wild nature and ponder why some reckless fools live so long...
And in all of that, still yearn to walk in morn's new glow and day's great promise....
with hopes of wondrous dreams to come...

We Had Time, Eternity Or So We Thought We had time, eternity or so we thought days of sunshine, picnics in flowering fields. In life and in love, nothing more ever sought on and on, our raging love forever builds! We had time, eternity or so we thought. In life and in love, nothing more ever sought. We had time, eternity or so we thought you with great beauty that would never fade. In life's great illusion we both were caught forgetting we were mortal flesh and bone made! We had time, eternity or so we thought. In life and in love, nothing more ever sought. Yes, about that time we both thought secure those summers, when bliss came with the winds. We swam in love, its clear waters so pure treasured times awaiting around the bends! We had time, eternity or so we thought. In life and in love, nothing more ever sought. Yes, about that illusion we both held so dear did we not see and hear its silent cracks? More breaks in our shield that allowed in world's fear with tragedy following up our well worn tracks? We had time, eternity or so we thought. In life and in love, nothing more ever sought. Yes, about past fantastic times of love's bliss romance and its magnificent joys we had. You and I shall hold onto that first sweet kiss give thanks for blessings, no longer be sad. We had time, eternity or so we thought. In life and in love, nothing more ever sought. 9-25-2017

Thank you my friend. I wrote a far happier ending than real life brought. There was once bliss but her desire to always have it all --me and her drugs, destroyed the dream.

Thank you my friend. This poem was based upon a very sad part of my life. A very deep love that almost destroyed me..

Hello Robert, A very moving and fulsome Rhyme here for sure. Yes, the age-old crux of illusion vs. reality paired with the fleeting nature of man's mortal coil, juxtaposed to man's desire for things in both life and love to last for an eternity. Very Well-Done, and congratulations on POTD!! A FAVE TOO!! Best Wishes, Gary

Thank you my friend. A life lived too fast and too wild, with some of the usual sad events, especially in the romance department.

Who can undo past mistakes, no one, but the memories live on. I loved this poem, the refrain makes it quite lyrical which you know I appreciate. Congrats on another POTD worthy write!

Thank you my friend. When composing this piece, I moved the refrain from the opening verses to the closing verses. I thought it far more impacting and beautifully smooth that way. Tossed a coin on it being both the opening and the closing couplet.. As is, we have total of 5 - 4 verse stanzas and 5 refrains- as I wanted that symmetry...

Thanks my friend.... Even when very young, Time seemed to be an avowed enemy of mine...Nothing has changed in that regard in 50+ years it seems to me.

Thank you my friend. I just let ink fly and jotted down what my muse told me. Occasionally she hits the mark.. When she is not raging at me for my interfering with her thoughts!

Thank you my friend. Appreciating our blessings be they large or small, many or few- leads to a better life. As positive thought deeply embraced is a shield against darkness.

Thank you my friend. Glad you liked this trip into my past and hopefully I did it and her justice in my verses. I poured my heart into it. What more can a poet do??

A beautifully written nostalgic poem Robert. The refrain is lovely in itself, but it's really amazing how it flows through the background of your poem linking stanza to stanza in a wonderfully rhythmic way that sets up your reverie perfectly. Congratulation on POTD honors!! Enjoyed :)

My good friend, thank you for such glowing comments and support. I admit taking extra time on this piece because that beautiful lady deserves the best I could muster. She went on to live a happy married life and have 4 children. I went on to live a wild life and not truly settle down for years. Sweet memories of that awesome first kiss she gave are very precious to me..

Thank you Mashaal. When I write about my past and my wild youth, I do to the best of my ability present it all truthfully. And I made a lot of mistakes, walked away from some beautiful gems. Oft I did so because they deserved better than a guy too wild to settle down, into a calm and peaceful life.
Date: 9/29/2017 10:58:00 AM
Robert, congrats on the POTD, this poem is well deserving of that honor. It is amazing how our perspective on love and life changes between our youth and old age; and the older we get the clearer that becomes.

Thank you John. We have an advantage after having lived more decades in that Life teaches us that Love is complicated and has a down side too. It is only as strong as the united bond that forges it. And sometimes Time weakens that bond. Thus sadness and true heartbreak rise to replace the joy of bliss.. Hindsight allows for deeper and clearer evaluations on past relationships.

Thank you Silent One. I am in awe any time my poems are deemed to be worthy. I do so often write about my life and real people that have been a part of it. ""We had time, eternity or so we thought. In life and in love, nothing more ever sought."" ^^ Was the illusion that such intense love brings. Reality oft proves that, Fate and Time do not comply..
