We don't speak now, instead we just text Never expecting what we'd lose next Losing our voice was just the next step in a journey through all things not kept We kept the wind but lost gentle breeze that tousled our hair, murmured in trees We kept the sky, but lost the sunset crimson and gold clouds we'd never forget We lost the birds in their lovely flight We lost the stars but kept ebon night we lost the deer, the wolf, the squirel but kept creatures that fit in our world We lost the way to write and to keep The music we lost somewhere in sleep We lost the words, like a broken clasp Slipped thru our minds,we couldn't grasp And last, poems kept etched in our heart Found they also needed to depart. Loss seemed caused by a magical hex But, not to fear, for we could still text!
