Waiting

Poet's Notes
(Show)

I have written another poem regarding the outcome of what lies beyond death.

I feel I must refer you to it as an afterthought to the final line of this poem.

Those who share this earthly habitat of beauty-
flowers, sea creatures, beasts and men,
all share  a strange, unwilling  predilection
with no other choice but to quietly acquiesce.

Passive consent to this feared and austere fate-
no other means to feign a better scene,
contrary to what legend may surmise
nascent, as  it seems in all its innuendo
it nettles us to know that  death is certain
a  ruthless, silent predator in  waiting.

A somber and sobering write, depicting the fate of all life on earth. Love your creative and evocative use of language here --- never heard of death being described as "innuendo" before ... that's a first. Best of luck on the competition, my fellow poet friend!

There will come a time when we have to bid goodbye to all earthly wealth and beauty; death waits with stopwatch in hand, ready to press the button! ~ Regards // paul

So true, Paul: The years fly by so quickly that we often forget we are stamped with an expiration date like all organic things. Loving life, SuZ
