Valentine Date
Was anyone really thinking?
Creating a day set aside for smothered lovers
married couples, partners, sweethearts in the groove
believing for a moment love could ever be improved.
A box of chocolates, a bouquet of flowers
dinner sweetens the valentine hours.
Quick as the dinner drinks arrives
feelings and emotions barely survive.
A hug, a kiss, a push aside
he's watching the clock, catches another's eyes
and in the fading spell he's no longer mesmerized.
Keep your flowers, candy and all those other sweets,
go home alone with hurried feet
put sad music on and face the emptiness asleep.
My lonely valentine escapes
this was our once and only valentine date.
