Too Early
There beside the entrance
To my neighborhood Whole Foods,
Were Christmas trees lined up,
Perhaps to brighten people’s moods.
I’d gotten used to seeing trees
Right after Turkey Day,
Which always seemed too early
For a holiday display.
Yet now it is a week before
Thanksgiving Day instead,
So those who buy their trees now
Will, by Christmas, find them dead.
