To Young To Die

There should be no more war Turn your swords into plough shears He exchanged his plough shears for a gun and died at thirty-four The youngest of thirteen for victory he did strive Turn your swords into plough shears A hero he wanted to be for king, country and family The youngest of thirteen for victory he did strive He was the one of thirteen, the one that did not survive A hero he wanted to be for king, country and family He exchanged his plough shears for a gun and died at thirty-four He was the one of thirteen, the one that did not survive There should be no more war ©24/05/2013 ~GG~ Contest entry: When the tough get Going

Wishful thinking... as long as their human greed and lust of power the wars will continue. Magnificent writing, however! Though your pantoum cut short, it was so well put crafted that it didn't matter. Congrats on the well deserved win!

Never tried a pantoum. I realise now how it lends itself to forcefully expressing a sentiment. Fine poem.-Red

This touches that place where the shadows of war and violence have shattered so many families....the last line says it all.......plain and simple!
