To Visit Shadows

To visit memory's dark realms of shade And understand why emotions mislead To grapple with a lost lover's charade These shadows of dark that make my soul bleed How dark was the stage before my retreat? As I danced with my shadows of lament I found no good reason for my defeat Though find these shadows come with my consent How do I measure my yesterday's spent? For only my mind's eye cradles them close Like blooms from a rose in silent descent Memories that stay will evoke pathos To turn away every time they return Would deny all knowledge I came to learn 2/9/20

Congratulations on your first place win, Frederic. So many wonderful phrases in your sonnet - "like blooms from a rose in silent descent," "danced with the shadows of lament" - this is just filled with regret yet gained understanding. Impressive!

Frederic, I agree. We must look back sometimes. That is how we learn and grow. The heart never forgets love. Great sonnet as usual.
