To Know the Way Home
You’ve spent many hours, great thoughts to discern.
Traveled many paths, great truths to learn.
But when it appeared the path would end,
You always discovered another slight bend.
You’d have to regroup and start again.
You set up in silence in the dark one night,
Without eyes to see you saw a light.
You were looking outward and seeking insight.
You realized looking outward was a losing plight.
Looking outward was wrong, inwards was right.
I’ve been trying to learn what I already know.
There’s not really a way, there’s nowhere to go.
It’s like the corn, looking for the kernel.
The source that knows both would have to be eternal.
I’ll pray to the Creator, the way home he can show.
There’s no reason for you to stray.
Return to me without delay.
I’m here to help you day by day.
Carefully listen when you pray.
Step by step, I’ll show you the way.
