This Heartfelt Wish
Shoulda been a better man,
a better father,
a better husband
Woulda got a more bountiful blessing,
and a lot less vexation
Prideful sin requires humble confession
Coulda avoided so many curses;
unnecessary pain, a double heaping
Tasted only tears of joy had I chose to listen
With a smile I vow to be a better man,
a better son ... a better brother,
a better friend
Now I choose to be a better human being,
a more compassionate soul because —
I don’t wish for anyone to be the way I was
