The Village Christmas
The Village Christmas
It was the brightest night I’ve ever seen
Stars shined like diamonds this Christmas Eve
Then snow fell before daylight
And covered our village in sparkling white
My family gathered around the fire
To hear stories only daddy could tell
Wide eyed and sleepy we listened in wonder
And then drifted off in a magical slumber
All through the night the only sound
Was the whisper of fresh falling snow
And my last thought when falling asleep
I’ve been good and hoped Santa would know
As the morning sun rose on a village in white
We climbed from our beds to see
Beautiful gifts and holiday goodies
Stashed under the Christmas tree
Church bells rang and carolers sang
Giving thanks to our Christ child born
The candles they carried gave such a warm glow
On the crest of the fresh fallen snow
Our family arrived throughout the day
Bringing treats for the big Christmas feast
Turkey and pies and cookies oh my
That no one could wait to eat
Laughter and giggles filled our home
And love was shared by all
While grandpa sat puffing his pipe
Enjoying the spirit of it all
As families left to return to their homes
A silence came over our house
We all bowed our heads and gave thanks for this day
With a prayer mama said so well
