The Start of School

School begins tomorrow; All the teachers must report. For most of them, the summer always Seems to be too short. They’ll decorate their classrooms And mentally prepare. For years I did the same but now I’m glad that I’m not there! I’ll sleep tonight without the dreams That back-to-school inspired. Let others plan and worry – I’m at work being retired!

Oh, I am envious! I think I would have loved being a teacher. But, you know the old adage, "Those that can, teach. Those that can't, enter the work force!" I still have a year or two before retirement but I am determined to make a smart choice this time around so scoot over and clear me a place on that retired bench! Love this poem Ilene!

Your poem made me smile as I met a teacher today who had retired in summer and she said how odd it was not to go into school today for 'In service' I am sure she will get used to it!!:-) I love to see the kids going to school especially the little ones going to school for the first time, and am thankful I no longer work there except for exam work:-) hugs jan xx

Did you see the 12-year-old on TV who could not read the signatures on a baseball because he could not read "cursive"? Perhaps you retired too soon! Aloha! Rico

Being able to do what you want is the best part of being retired. My husband chose to continue working 10 more years as he is a workaholic. But I cherished having time to volunteer healing with a hospital, and signing for the deaf at Bingo. It was such a joy. I enjoyed your poem Ilene! : )
