The Seagull

Resting near the water’s edge A seagull perched upon a ledge Waiting for a passing treat Spies an unsuspecting fish to eat Follows it with an evil gedge.

Those seagulls catch fish twice their size and swallow them whole! I have observed it. It is frightening! This poem makes sense to me.

Watched them from a cruise ship swooping down and catching a fish in their mouths, amazing to see. Tom

Yes, it is. We once had a blue heron that visited our little pond. He looked like a pond ornament until he thrust his head into the water and came up with a fish. Then, he flew off to another good fishing spot, I suppose.

Kind of a poem with immediate visual appeal, you are quickly next to the seagull and come to guess the fish inadvertently swimming near the bird's beak!

Thanks, Marco. I have observed this on many occasions. It is, actually, a metaphor for life. So quickly it may be swallowed up by a force greater than we. We were here, and then no more.
