with bitter winds of sand and spray and flecks of rain against my face how different this land looks today - a drenched vast unforgiving place. the turbines veiled in mist offshore first fade then vanish out at sea this world feels colder than before - so why this warmth inside of me?

Gary, you have a gift for exploring in poetry the yin and yang of double-edged swords: past/future, industrial/humanity, nature/psychology, childhood/adulthood, and so on. This brief poem of a moment in time covers all these and leaves the reader with a positive vibe of warmth. Thank you for that. I second Milton's comment below. Always a pleasure, my friend. Cheers ~ John

There's something about walking in the rain, John, that I just love. I love walking anyway but there's something about the rain and the effect it has on a landscape that brings out the poet in me. I like to 'wrap up warm' from the elements too. Thanks again. Cheers - Gary

Once again your rhymed lines are a true delight, + lead superbly to your final line that takes the outside world to inner human reflection. Best wishes, Brian

This poem lifts its message over the words like a warm wind might rattle the leaves on a summer's eve, leaving understanding and sadness in its wake. Well done my friend, your pen paints a poetic picture in my mind, Emile.

Lovely verse, Gary. I think because you are a warm, caring person. That never grows cold in the heart and soul.

Milton, thanks so much for your lovely comments. Mother nature fascinates me and the 'art' she creates on and with the earth and the effect she has on we humans. In fact, I'd like to thank her for providing a great source for not just my poetry but for the poetry of others here on PS that I enjoy reading. Cheers - Gary

Excellent work Gary, love the imagery of the turbines fading out of sight, your a positive guy, I on the other hand being a negative tosser, would have finished this poem with the world warming, whilst I grow colder inside, cheers David

Hey David...It's interesting that you should say that..I was honestly thinking of having a world warming message in this poem somewhere when I first put pen to paper (well, when I first typed some letters on my laptop) but decided to go for a straightforward walking rhyme at Formby point in the rain instead...well..sort of... :) Cheers for the visit. nice one...I like a warm gentle rain and the effects of the drops on the sand is lovely afterwards but turbines disappearing means it's really cold and gray brrr..I would feel the warmth because of the gladness that I'm safe on the beach and not going blind on the sea - too darn stressful out there on such days :))

Hi Susan. Yes! Everything you have written here resonates with me. Despite the rain on the beach it was much colder out at sea creating a feeling of warmth and security. Cheers - Gary.

We've had enough rain of late to last a lifetime so different to last year. Love the imagery Gary, have experienced that many times in the UK. But you're right keep the flame burning within and you become invincible. Hope your week is going well. Tom
