The Spirit Man

The spirit-man within him stood Persevered the pain. Determined he would take no food, until the blessings rained. Both mind and body were subdued. The Creator was his claim. In a jail, shackled and bound, each day he overcame. He spoke no daily platitudes, but only lay in wait, soul reaching to the universe, for spiritual escape. Endowed by the Creator’s realm the spirit-man grew stronger, denying food in fasting prayer, his body had no hunger. Oh, what secrets may be jailed in this Charman, priest or chief. There lies a strength, outside the self of spirit and belief. 9/20/2022 2nd Place in The Human Spirit Poetry Contest Sponsored by Mystic Rose
