Temporary Pain

Believing is essential on the highway to being,
My keeping the faith doesn’t always send pain fleeing.
The hardest thing for me in dealing with pain,
Is convincing my body to believe in my brain;
Pills are the first thing many seek for pain resistance,
Prescribed by some doctor due to patient insistence;
But I view pain pills as being no more than a crutch,
And if you swallow enough you become in their clutch.
