Nature's Wild Child

Rain’s riot banishes peace of mind day, Deluge damning dumps devious rage wet. Storm, summer rain's wild child pours on display; Lightning fierce, firing fitful since sunset, Bass booming thundercracks dishing dismay, Reverb atmospheric quaking dire threat. Tantrum, summer's sobs throbs at window’s pain-- That this hellish brat exists, blackened bane! Strobes’ amperage sizzling slow-motion fear As brute force rants with spate’s tongue-lashing raves. Kiss of death’s electric surge stalks me here, Sky-splitting rumbling roars rock shocked airwaves. Combustion spontaneous in juiced air, Summer spawned tempest's temper misbehaves! Menace.., nightmare slow swirls away turtle’s pace-- I feel color returning to pale face. SusanAshley August 23, 2017 N/A Premiere Contest: Summer Rain Storm Sponsor: Dale Gregory Cozart

Marvelous poetry! Felt as if I was standing directly in the storms path; you threw everything in at this, Susan -- apart from the kitchen sink! :) Beautifully crafted. My very best as always - cheers! :) john

Yes John, I definitely 'went for broke' in this write lol! I'm pleased that it had the desired effect of putting you directly in the storm's path, though not at risk :) Your wonderful comments thrill me to no end.. Thank you! My warmest wishes always.. ~Susan

Excellent imagery and use of vocabulary, Susan. This double Ottava Rima is lovely to read but not to experience. I suppose the most welcome part is the calm after the storm! In Malta we usually get such storms in September...rain, lightning and thunder/bolts. ~ Warm regards // paul

Paul, I am a weather watcher, and where I live I get a full dose of the four seasons. I always enjoy wild weather experiences, as such I enjoy both; the excitement of the storm and the placidity following a storm. Your precious thoughts are cherished and I thank you from my heart for your support and encouragement of my poetry. My warmest wishes for you always.. ~Susan

What powerful imagery and alliteration you have employed in this amazing Otta Riva. The words just explode off the screen with the force of a relentless "wild child!" This is truly a winner in my books! BRAVA! Pandita

Gosh Susan, You don't live in Texas do you? I really feel for everyone there under water with more to come. My sister in law and family live in Austin. Your poem is written so well the imagery just jumps off the page! Beautiful! : )

Hi Connie, thankfully (because of the awful flooding situation) I do not live in Texas. I live with my lovely husband and family on the south coast of Massachusetts. My heart goes out to the good people of Texas suffering under the effects of Harvey :( hopefully your sister in law and family will not suffer and will be ok. Thank you so very much for reading and commenting so wonderfully on my poem. I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)

WoW! Sounds like a hurricane. Reminds me of how my mom used to get scared every time we had a lightning storm. She would grab us kids and go sit on the couch or the bed with our feet up off the floor to avoid the lightning. She used to say that lightning might strike her anyway but it would have to find her first. Great write. God Bless, JB
