Stranger Than Fiction
I took an Anne Perry book down from the shelf,
A book about "Monk" and his memory loss,
I have always thought "Monk" is Perry herself,
I believe she has placed her guilt "albatross",
That of the long-ago matricide itself,
Around "Monk's" neck, thus transferring her own cross
Onto this man whose past has been forgotten,
Because Perry's own past is somewhat rotten.*
*"Anne Perry" is the pseudonym of Juliet Hulme, who, with Pauline Parker, murdered Parker's mother in June 1954 (New Zealand). The film "Heavenly Creatures" tells the story of the murder - Wikipedia.
