Step Away
There have been many times I stepped up to the plate,
Times when I sometimes mistook anger for hate.
Then as time passed I began to wonder,
Living this life could soon put me under.
So then I made a conscious decision,
To walk away and to hell with derision.
My family were now my prime concern,
For them alone I had a lesson to learn.
When folk came to me, trouble to seek,
I had to have courage to turn my cheek.
It was so bloody hard for me not to hit out,
I knew I was stronger than a miserable lout.
Now I am older living a peaceful life at last,
I love my wife, much more than a violent past.
