Stay, Baby Mine, Stay

Between the blind slats I see pale light;
birds waken and begin to sing.
Slowly the inky hold of night weakens,
black fingers slipping backwards,
dawn gaining strength, brightness.
You turn and open eyes still sleepy,
your downy head cradled in my arms;
baby sweetness like the fresh morning,
soft dewy skin cloaking infant charms.
The days flow faster
sweeping childhood swiftly past,
clouds of child laughter
raining happiness each day
stay, baby mine, stay with me.
