Urban Sonnet
Invented by: Laura Loo. Sonnet form, with 10 syllables per line and a rhyme scheme of: ABABBB- CDCDDD- EFEFFF-GG
Your vote's not a privilege; it's a right
earned and paid for by hard work, blood, and tears.
When cast in the dark, it's the only light
you have to highlight your concerns and fears.
It gives you an equal voice with your peers,
so protect it before it disappears.
Look at what is happening around you;
the wealthy are manipulating votes.
And they lie so much; you don't know what's true;
politicians are shysters and cutthroats.
Armed with fake smiles and charming anecdotes,
they get us to pay for their jets and boats.
Your ballot is cast in a voting booth
where only you see the choices you make.
Participation affects today's youth;
it's their future freedoms that are at stake.
There are no guarantees in a handshake,
and ignorance does not rate a tax break.
Before you lose your rights, get out and vote,
power poisons, your vote's the antidote.
