Resignation

Resignation

She called her auntie
She called nine one one
She was told that nothing could be done

She lay in bed
She could hear her mom cough
She new she wouldn't stop

She threw away the pipe
Told her friends to go away
But the smoke was there to stay

After years went by
Her mom was still the same
And then the time came

With resignation she said
If you can't beat them, join them
By then she was numb

She went down the stairs
Too tired too fight
Then picked up the crack pipe

I hate that this is an all too true poem. I love that it is delivered in such a succinct, dramaric way. Tanis - a very good job ... CayCay
