Poppy for a Conscientious Objector

I apologise,
for not wanting to kill innocent men.
I apologise,
for not working in the munitions den.
I apologise,
for not joining the fight on foreign shore.
I apologise,
for not being blown up in the futility of war.

I apologise,
for volunteering my songs in the Orphanage.
I apologise,
for patching up wounds after the carnage.
I apologise,
for not seeing fear in young men's eyes.
I apologise,
for not believing in propaganda lies.

But most of all, I apologise
for having the courage to be a coward.

powerfully penned Kevin, my son wouldn't take part in an army day at school - he said it was propaganda to get them to join up. :-) hugs Jan x
