Past Agony

It still has a grip on me
consumes me from the inside out
This flesh eating memory
Leaves acid in my mouth

Of course the pain has dulled
But it isn't laid to rest
It lingers in my skull
Chipping bones inside my chest

The past cannot be erased
The memory must be purged
It takes up too much space
So deep in my heart it's submerged

All that is left is to forgive and accept
Easier said than done
Despite all the tears I wept
It's grip I cannot outrun
