Parkinson's

Perhaps the tremor was a clue, but still my Doctor did not know A year before I got to hear that hateful word that scared me so Reality finally kicking in ~ downhill my mind was spiralling Kindness and empathy from my Parkinson’s nurse Instilling calm within me with her actions and her words Not one day passes when thoughts of P don't come into my mind So when they do I pass them through ~ no permission to stay behind Only then can I live my life ~ for Parkinson’s will not define me Now five years on since P crept in ~ stealing 75% of my dopamine Since then I discovered PS and friends to liberate my muse and banish P blues Written 25th July 2019 2nd PLACE Contest: ACROSTICALLY I STAND TALL Sponsor: James Edward Lee Sr. Contest A BRIAN STRAND AUGUST Sponsor Brian Strand FIRST PLACE

We are all teachers on this earth and you and my dear auntie Liz do not deserve this horrible disease, and yet by having it you have taught me that whatever problems occur, how we approach them is key to our happiness. Neither you or Auntie Liz let P define you and you carry on giving your all to life. Truly inspirational.

Aww thank you so much for your lovely comments dear Elizabeth, but life is for living and we are only here once, so we must not waste a moment, despite what life throws at us. As you say, there is a reason for everything. Of course we all have our down days, but generally they are so debilitating, that positive thinking is the only way. For me poetry has been my saviour, as it takes me to a special place. With kindest thoughts Ann xx

Ann, I am so glad you found your tribe - us. And even more grateful that we give you hope, and uplift you. A lovely poem, in honor of the brave and strong woman you are, the one who is not letting a P word get you down! Good for you!

Hello Ann! A most touching acrostic! Crossing my fingers you will be the winner! You are a winner in my book. Your poetry, acrostic and you are one of the Special few women who comment to my poetry ..A special thanks for that!!many here have medical conditions to deal with. Don't let the P define you. You are far greater than it. My love and respect, Panagiota

Bless you dear Panagiota and I will try never to let P define me! Such a wonderful compliment from you Panagiota. I love your total honesty when you write a poem, so refreshing and often so funny - it is fabulous and I never quite know what to expect which is great! Thank you my friend with kindest thoughts Ann xx

Dear Ann: I'm so sorry to learn that you have contracted Parkinsons. My dear wife Vera had that for about 5 years before she passed in Jul 18 at age 83. Sounds like you are taking Seniment pills which Vera took and it controlled P to a certain extent. My prayers and thoughts will be with you - Bob H

Many thanks for your lovely visit Bob and so sorry to hear about dear Vera. Yes I am taking Sinemet, which helps with the tremor and luckily enables me to lead a relatively active life - long may it continue! Thank you so much for your kind words. With kindest thoughts Ann xx

Many thanks Tom. I have no choice really and most of the time, with 8 tabs a day, symptoms are controlled fairly well, but this heat has played havoc with the tremor! Anyway, enough of P, I hope you are faring better with the heat than me. In all day today drinking lots of water in front of a large fan. With kindest thoughts Ann xx
