One, Nine, and Sixteen

ONE, NINE AND SIXTEEN The sewing machine, long idle, gathered dust For Grandma, this machine was a must She would work long into the night Making sure each stitch turned out right The clothes she made, we were proud to wear Not ashamed to be seen anywhere Then one day, tragedy struck from afar And many of our men marched off to war The war years seemed like only yesterday Countless lives were lost along the way The lives that kept America free From peril of those across the sea Then one day, tragedy struck again Grandma died .... our closest friend Gone from us, the brightest spark The candle sputtered, spent, and all was dark 13 April 2018 For the contest sponsored by Viv Wigley

Joyce, what a marvelous acclamation! I had hoped it would have received a higher placement, but I am also pleased and humbled that it placed at all. I agree that all the poems entered in Viv's contest are good. I applaud the authors of each one. Thank you for your support.

Fabulous imagery Curtis you incorporated Viv's lines so well into your descriptive poem. I expect many of the poems will be sad and will follow a similar theme to yours. good luck in the contest:-) hugs jan xx

Thanks, Jan! I agree, many will perhaps follow this same pattern as seen in my poem. In essence, I hope they do simply to show how much they loved their family member and their country. You will never know how much I value your support. You keep me encouraged, and I appreciate it.
