Once Upon a Time
Once Upon a Time
“Once upon a time”
Who is time? What is he?
Is he more than just a phrase
Used to start our stories?
He is a thief in our midst
So dirty, so vile
He’s managed to steal from us all
Yet for him, there will be no trial
He will not be caught
Never! He cannot!
Though he may be right in front of our faces
He slips through our fingertips
Leaving us faceless
He is a liar! A deceiver!
Promising what he cannot give
Promising us life tomorrow
When today we want to live!
He is a murderer! A killer!
He takes even children in the midst of night
Innocent or guilty
He has no sense of wrong or right
To him we go and beg
Beg for healing and remedies
Yet instead he takes our youth
Leaving us with nothing but grey memories
Memories that hurt
Memories we want to forget
The ones we want to remember
He has wrapped around our necks
I wish to catch him!
Make him pay for what he has done
Yet he has me trapped
Everyday, trapped under the sun
Our entire lives,
Our heads are held under his trigger
Everything can disappear
With just a flick of his finger
One second!
One second is all it takes
Anything more,
And he himself he would waste
Stuck in yesterday
Yet we are wishing for tomorrow
While we bathe in our pity
And pray for our sorrows
But
I understand him really
This thief of mankind
Whilst it seems that he takes
Only in him we find life
He is forever and yet never
I wonder how that must feel
To be eternal must be somber
Imagine being everything, except real
And yet here he is
Wrapped around my wrist
Tick Tock Tick Tock
until I no longer exist
He takes everything from our hands
Is there not anything he can allow?
Ah, but there is one thing even time cannot grasp
And that my friends is
now
