November's Sad Note

came, on wings, swift and brisk, bleak November, bringing smile and sigh. naked trees stand aghast, with leaves falling and tumbling, as tresses cut from a girl's head. flowers from their royal thrones upturned the world once young have gone so grey and bald! Dear Valsa, your eloquent Autumn imagery and stunning metaphors capture November's melancholy with finesse. I especially adored "the world once young have gone so grey and bald!" - oh how the seasons have aged! Making your poem so relatable to those of us of a certain age.. Such a grand finale to an expressive and vivid piece. I enjoy the bleak beauty of November, indeed it brings both a "smile and sigh" as does the charm of your poem to my heart. Congratulations for your excellent win in Brian's contest. Warmest wishes, my sweet friend.. ~Susan

This is incredible imagery and metaphor. one problem, sweetie. You wrote an etheree (ten lines) instead of nine. But for the gorgeous writing you did, I could not keep it off my list. Thanks for your beautiful poem.

'as tresses cut' ... 'flowers upturned:' Haunting turns of phrases, so characteristic of November's distinctive 'brand of bleak.' Huzzah, Valsa. Nicely penned nonet! ~ Gershon

Actually I have seen Autumn only once. Here we don't have autumn in the south where I live. In North India, there is some coloring of leaves, but not to the extent as you see them in your place. But from what I have known, it is a month that brings mixed feelings of joy and sorrow. Thanks a lot Paul for your kind comment !
