When your inner monsters invade your dreams,
your beleaguered brain can play tricks on you.
And from a nightmare, you awake to screams,
it feels so real you're convinced it's true
that demonic demons have broken through;
and powerless, there's nothing you can do.
Feeling helpless, you know you're in peril
and cannot shake off that feeling of dread.
It's like your dog suddenly goes feral
and you're not sure if it's alive or dead
as it chases you looking to be fed,
your feet tangled in the sheets of your bed.
Anxiety rises and starts to peak,
as your heart begins to pound in your chest.
You feel disorientated and weak,
stuck inside of a dream that you detest
but you can't wake up, though you try your best,
while panic ensures that you'll get no rest.
When you genuinely think you might die,
the scariest nightmares can make you cry.
