Nature, My Kryptonite
the green hue of the forest in Spring and Summer
as I follow a winding rocky trail as bees buzz
and butterflies float and drift here and there
my hair a flowing golden river
the twitter and songs of a hundred hidden birds
a rippling clear stream with mossy rocks
the dappled trees and wildflowers and ferns
the clinging vines
the falling colors of Autumn
and I am lost in a sea of trees
and red, gold, and orange leaves that twirl and swirl
the earthy smell of change
and I twirl in the stained glass forest with delight
and decay as the threads of Summer wither
I gather pretty leaves to press in old books
as squirrels scamper looking for nuts buried
and the forest is a poetic temple silent with imagination
the hushed bitter cold of Winter in the forest
as the ice hangs in the air whispering
the snow crackling under my boots
and frosty pure white snowflakes like filigree lace fall
leaving my lips ice-kissed
I feed the birds from my mitten hands
and ice is dripping, dripping, dripping
the cold forest beckons to me and inspires me
as I am a Winter child
