My Dear Friend, If You Only Knew
thoughts of faded autumn embers,
sedated with a mind cluttered-
oh, dear friend, if you only knew…
my heart flawed since we said adieu
I need not a fear to surpass my sight,
nor feel the desire to watch ravens soar-
no, I crave the emotions you left behind…
now absolute integrity I must find
I seek amber when darkness prevails;
(redeem myself somehow)
for my dear friend, if you only knew…
my essence ebon since we said adieu
little stars of ivory dust sprinkle tonight;
they flatter themselves in cosmic depth-
shower me in riches of the heart…
forgiving two willows who weep apart
timbers of a forest, emerald with ease,
for I am left breathless without rest-
oh, my dear friend, if you only knew…
my soul apprehended since we said adieu
melancholy eyes without pain’s surprise,
leaning onto bridge rails for safekeeping-
for falling into reveries of silent tides…
made me comprehend why my mind hides
for my sweet friend, if you only knew…
emptiness follows since we said adieu
