Mommy Says I Have To Stay In Bed
I want to go outside and play,
But just don’t feel so good.
In bed all day, sleeping on and off,
I swallow and my throat feels like a layer of skin
Has been peeled off, oh…,
I am coughing and my ribs feels like it’s going to break,
Slight fever, stuffed up nose that won’t quit running.
My bed faces the window
And I can see all my friends playing
Out in their front yards.
Some of the older kids are raking
The fallen leaves of golden brown,
Reds, orange, and yellows
From under the bare trees.
Raking them into enormous heap,
While some of the younger children
Come running and jump into the piles;
While others kick, and hurl them around.
The dog is barking all excited,
Jumping, running round and round
The pile of leaves wanting to join in.
I certainly want to get outside and play,
But mommy says no,
I have to remain in a warm bed,
Take my medicine and drink plenty of fluids
So, I can get well.
