Listen to poem:
in the time it takes to blink sometimes I stop to think what powers lie beneath a sword outside its sheath its weight in gold of silence dangles in the balance vague stillness turns to ice within fool’s paradise its silence unfurls a cloak consoles heartbroken folk depths unforeseen sometimes serene at times chaotic even neurotic a shawl on shoulders worn a heart in pieces torn dark tears kept out of sight need healing in the night to the blessed sounds of violin or sweet midnight mandolin Submitted on February 21, 2022 for contest A BRIAN STRAND RIME sponsored by BRIAN STRAND AP: 2nd place 2020 Originally posted on February 21, 2020
