Listen to poem:
in the time it takes to blink
sometimes I stop to think
what powers lie beneath
a sword outside its sheath
its weight in gold of silence
dangles in the balance
vague stillness turns to ice
within fool’s paradise
its silence unfurls a cloak
consoles heartbroken folk
depths unforeseen
sometimes serene
at times chaotic
even neurotic
a shawl on shoulders worn
a heart in pieces torn
dark tears kept out of sight
need healing in the night
to the blessed sounds of violin
or sweet midnight mandolin
