Mermaid
The Son of Land and Daughter of Sea
I wish to give you a gift, says she,
And without a thought he does agree.
He loves her for her singing pure and beauty so divine.
She in the water, he, on the sand;
She beckons with a dewy hand;
She sweeps him from his precious land.
He loves her more than worldly life, all things on Earth combined.
He is caressed by chilly waves
He attempts to, for her, the oceans brave
He sinks into his watery grave.
He loves her sorely, soaring, torn, forsaking air for strangling brine.
Deep and dark the ocean grows,
Down where a mermaid’s lover goes-
To her home to decompose
This truth any good seaman knows.
A Mer is anything but benign.
