"We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." Anaïs Nin
“Man Eating Flower”
Voluptuous lips Velvet soft and slick mouth words that skip and crush off wet tongues to french kiss and swallow all the serious insects Like a siren sings sailors to her ocean’s salty cave then envelops them in soft marzipan sugary bliss Enticing An Understanding like gullible Narcissus bitten, numbed and transfixed Light shining all Black they see themselves in your reflection all palindromes eventually they cut you, some slack - They need their backs scratched Words like elixirs dropped on bored and sleepy eyelids and under tongues medicinal welcomed and called forth You conjure They conjure Your petals' perfume, intoxicating, bloom in your silent atmosphere, where purple profusions of the most welcomed lie open legs and minds calling out to Incubi and Succubi sucking on your unfulfilled mind Full of jubilant stories never lived Arms and legs outstretched smiles and sighs mortar and pestle pumice bowled crushed golden glories They dream You dream Then silently the drugged mind closes around stamens and people become bugs Life is a drug In your twilight moments You think if that's not me in the mirror, who are you when you face your mirage? Flower eating Man Man eating Flower We are all walking in our minds naked souls requiring a lesson in pushing through a tight and unforgiving birth canal with warm wet massage Who then wonder when standing before that mirror in the dark Who is this? Turn off the Light Let me sit for a while in the oily comfort of darkness To find the true Answers scried Reality is swallowed comfortably When the honour guard of imagination calls to save the day Tropic of Cancer Tropic of Capricorn Invisible lines of denial between paramours the closed doors and all the empty ballrooms with Ghosts Romancing Life’s real dancers Voluptuous lips Velvet soft and slick mouth words that skip and crush off wet tongues to french kiss and swallow all the serious insects (LadyLabyrinth / 2020)
“The important task of literature is to free man, not to censor him, and that is why Puritanism was the most destructive and evil force which ever oppressed people and their literature: it created hypocrisy, perversion, fears, sterility.” Anaïs Nin, The Diary of Anaïs Nin, Vol. 4: 1944-1947

“If men could see us as we really are, they would be a little amazed; but the cleverest, the acutest men are often under an illusion about women: they do not read them in a true light: they misapprehend them, both for good and evil: their good woman is a queer thing, half doll, half angel; their bad woman almost always a fiend.” Charlotte Brontë

This is a beauty Leanne! And this is why I do not look into mirrors, I don't want see what is looking back at me. The flow is rhythmic and keeps going with your words in perfect harmony. Your thoughts are on a deeper level of consciousness than most and they truly stand out in bold print highlighted and underlined in this great piece.

Everyone looks in the mirror long and hard at some point in their life and has an internal conversation, as if conversing with the reflection that stares back at them, is the part of them that contains the soul; what you are looking at in the mirror, is not the soul, it is the mirage. What we see or feel internally within ourselves and how we value truth, integrity and conduct ourselves in life and how we treat other people with respect, or not - is far more important than what other people 'think' they see in us. At the end of the day, the important thing is to treat people with the dignity and respect you would wish them to deliver to you. Sometimes this is not possible, when trust and truth have been broken/burnt, particularly if there has been betrayal. Perhaps with forgiveness it is possible, but once those two qualities have been broken, it is difficult to trust a person the same way again, because respect is lost. Perhaps then respect has to be earned.

How we see ourselves and think of ourselves is not how other people see us or think they can have any concept of who we really are - and vice versa. And of course I have a big thing for Anais Nin....and Henry Miller. I love the statement posed by Anais Nin in that quote - it certainly made me internalise it all .... thank you for reading my poem James, I always value your thoughts and input. Warmest blistering regards from the Land of the Big Bushfires, as always, your friend - a very serious insect. x

Life is more than mere drug, it is a conundrum of sorts, a riddle, a puzzle, a maze. We make our way through not knowing which way is true... beautiful V.S.A.M.

LIFE my dear Schmidt, is a LESSON. The School is "LOVE" and there are numerous subjects categorised within that school's syllabus, that are passed successfully or not in a lifetime. The Purgatory of it all is - should you not pass all the subjects with flying colours within your lifetime, one is sent back to have another go at it until you get it right. That is my opinion, not the opinion of others. Groundhog Day. We are all in school 'til the day we finally 'get IT' right and then we move through the mirage. With or without rapture. ;) What I see, is not what you may see and vice versa...but going on positives and negatives, yin and yang, I think I may be onto something. I'm getting warmer, I am sure of that... x
