Love Ever Beats

Shadows haunt the hearth with passion’s decline; gloom hugs cornices and curtains block the light, yet hope ever beats in love’s blessed shrine. Silence’s been louder the past Valentine’s; nothing’s colder than a cup of lost fight . Shadows haunt the hearth as passion declines. Myrtles line life’s pathways with colubrine; lovers used to look forward to each night. Still, hope ever beats in love’s blessed shrine. Yet two lives will for always entwine when both hearts pray for each to reach new heights as shadows haunt with passion’s slow decline. The memory of what each meant defines an image of a future that’s still bright as hope ever beats in love’s blessed shrine. The thought of what could be this Valentine's a step back to romance and such charmed sight. Shadows may haunt with passion’s slow decline, yet hope ever beats in love’s blessed shrine. 04 February, 2016 For Valentine Villanelle Challenge

Kim, this is one of the better entries I have seen in the contest. It was hard for me to be "deep" with this challenge. I liked mine but felt it trivial next to yours. WEll done, my friend.

Well done and full marks for this inspired Villanelle, Kim! I acknowledge that this form is not at all easy to handle, but you took up the challenge and came out on top! I find that careful planning has to be done prior to writing, and you must have done your homework well:) Hugs and gl // paul

Once they asked Euripides, the Ancient Greek tragedian of the 5th century BC, how did he feel when he reached an age where he could not "please" a lady any longer, he replied: " I thank the Gods that I have been liberated from this daemon!" Carnal satisfaction is necessary to lay the foundation of relationship for the edifice of love but when the edifice of love is completed, it is not necessary for the relationship to grow! This realization comes with age! An excellent villanelle, dear Kim!
