Lost Loves

I walked into his arms, into the path Of a love that had been before. I was unaware as I kissed his lips Of she whom he'd always adore. I couldn't compete with the fond recall Of perfect love and girl so fair. To the memory of a first true love New love can't expect to compare. A rush of tears as he told the sad tale Of how his unguarded heart bled, As he stood by the bed of his betrothed And heard the sad words, "She is dead". We knew very well as we pledged our troth, We were not standing there alone. We could see the shadows of his lost girl And of the boy who was once my own. He knew of the death of my first sweet love, Of the love that had been steadfast. Our vows must allow for the memories, Forever a part of the past. By: Joyce

So touching dear Joyce...of first loves, and first losses, but endurance and and trust in the future, with someone who understands. A beautiful poem. Love, Carrie

She will live forever in his heart, Joyce, but he is lucky to have you. Finding someone who can understand and accept the trauma and lasting impact associated with such a loss is a treasure. Beautifully written, very moving. Love, Carolyn
