Long Nights

Dark clouds hover over me nonstop. Rain continues to pour profusely. Rainbows don't exist in my world. The sun has taken a permanent vacation. Birds are mute and no longer sing. The rooster no longer informs me of a new dawn. I now live on Melancholy Lane. The moon has lost its glow; stars don't shine. Days don't exist, and nights are very long. When you left, my love, I became a permanent resident of Melancholy Lane. 4-11-2021 Contest: Anacreontic Verse Sponsor: Silent One

So melancholy, yet no matter how long the night is... there would be dawn... even thou you don't hear the rooster. Great imagery, Alexis!

This sad and moody poem is a fine entry for the contest, Alexis. Your remarkable imagery has made sunless, songless, Melancholy Lane very real. Good luck in the contest. :) Evelyn

Alexis, this is a sad, but poignant piece of work. It is my hope, if it is personal, that the sun will soon shine again in your life. If not, you've succeeded in painting an incredible picture of gloom.
