The Sound of Silence

Devastated by betrayal, my heart is reeling from its sting. And amidst abject solitude, I struggle, alone with my pain. I hear the thumping of my heart, dismantling dreams with each beat. And it's pounding garishly loud, racing to accommodate fear. My teary eyes scan the night skies, to wish upon a shooting star. But tear have reduced their magic to distant specks of sparkling light. Sadness saturates my being, more profound than ever before. And loneliness smothers my soul, entombed in the sound of silence. (Blank Verse) 2/28/2015

Consider changing Thump to thumping it adds to the rhythm of the piece. I enjoyed this melancholy write.

Loneliness is an old friend -- but the wind from the sea is calling -- in its drafts are love and hope -- may we always see them even in our darkest moments. 7 (if interested, see my poem Wind From the Sea).

An outstanding depiction of Loneliness as a subject, Emile. Such accurate take on how a person feels leaves me hoping it's only fiction in your case. Regardless, we're here, your PoetrySoup family! Hugs and smiles. :DKim

Emile: Thank you for your kind words in your comment on my poem on Magic Kisses and Valentine Wishes. It prompted me to read some of your work. The poem herein describes the loneliness I have been feeling since November when my wife passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Ironically, your poem made me realize that my loneliness can be greatly overshadow by my relationship with Christ if I turn it over to Him. Thanks for such an inspirational irony.

Hello, Emile. Loneliness is a topic with which I'm all too familiar and I could relate to every verse, every line, every word. It truly does "smother" the soul and leave one in the depths of despair. If only there were a way for lonely people to connect! There are many of us. Thanks for visiting my poem. My health prevents me from being very active here, but I'm adding this poem to my favorites. Lucky Seven! Best wishes, carolyn
