I liked this prompt, both because the theme “life’s chaos” appealed, but also I liked the idea of a triolet without strict metre. I chucked syllable count out the window too, and wrote freely. But when I’d finished,  I counted my syllables out of interest, and found I’d accidentally followed a “kimo” type syllable count 10-7-6-10-7-6-10-7 - and what do you know, I’ve invented the kimo-let! I think the rhythm’s quite pleasing, even if the words are kinda nonsense!

Was that an apocalyptic stampede or the breath of a squirrel? It is baffling indeed. ~ Was that an apocalyptic stampede, the hushed tumble of a seed, or whimsy’s coy giggle? ~ Was that an apocalyptic stampede Or the breath of a squirrel?

Yes, I must try it again (this time deliberately!) and see if it’s as satisfying second time round. Thank you John for reading so far down the winners’ list lol!

Interesting that you did a Kimo-et. So inventive! things are very strange in the world indeed and this was a great quirky way to put it! (i wish folks would lighten up on rules like triolet has to be 8 syllables per line. I often use ten syllables and got called down on it once!)

Thank you Andrea! I agree. Forms give us beautiful templates for poetry, and sometimes it’s sayisfying to do them “perfectly” but I find it even more satisfying to adapt them and make them work for the poem, not the other way round!

Yes, a fun read. What are the happenings around us? What do they mean? Great!

Your eight lines sums it up, life's chaos, love your bit of nonsense lol. Or a better name would be a Ninakimolet, Good luck. Tom.

Actually, not bad, my middle name is Kim so a Nina-Kim-olet sounds good to me!

WOW.........Nina, I love this simply delicious bit of nonsensical wizardry. I will think about this all day...."Was that an apocalyptic stampede...Or the breath of a squirrel?"(or the wings of a butterfly altering the course of history)...

I’m very glad to hear it John, but try to internalise these thoughts or you’ll end up twitching. Thank you :-)
