Street musicians in poverty's finest
beg for recognition and a few coins.
And their music is intoxicating,
seducing me with its audacity.
Trumpets, offset by the whisper of strings,
harmonize in a release of passion.
And lost to the beat of their homespun jazz,
youthful bravado numbs pangs of hunger.
Pathos and revelry; played in tandem,
one speaks to the heart; one calls to the soul.
And as a brass horn sways with the rhythm,
feelings intensify with every chord.
