It's Easy To Forget
It’s easy to forget sometimes
That life is not the same.
A gorgeous weather day deserves
A little bit of blame.
For on an early morning walk,
My lovely daily task,
When no one is around I can
Remove the blasted mask.
I watch the sun come up and pass
Each restaurant and store,
Pretending that they’ll open soon
For business, like before.
As breezes blow, I picture
Visits to a town or beach,
Strolling gaily, eating ice cream –
Though, to me, that’s out of reach.
For reality reminds me
That the life I live now has
Somehow morphed into an outline,
Missing color and pizzazz.
