Dark as the sky who Publishes stars Reflecting the dance Against a tangerine Moon, longing for Dawn and truth Dark as the circles Underneath sunken eyes Who only see Insomnia’s gloom Coloring the night In melancholy and dread For moments of sleepless Fists raised toward angst Dark as the black Cat who is haunted By the shadow Of superstition Saying bad luck follows One who sees it Crossing their path Dark as the fate Of a lonely song Drifting through the Soul of one who Knows despair - grief And the grace that Caresses the naked Thoughts of a heart Who releases It’s dread to the Lavender light Of dawn Dark as the forest That breaths Shallow breaths Through dead branches Of oak and pine Leaves lost to earth Where decay Will offer grief-stricken Pain to the waves Of debris in hues of Graying grim gorges Dark as the pain Winding it’s way through Crimson veins Filled with flowing Antibiotics called love Who hope to heal The illness Of greed, hate, shame Dark as death In its blackest Cape of captivity Covering the soul in Misery and mystery Mourning for music That bleeds hope Into the emotions Dark as eyes Twinkling Delight from a place Of inspiration And insight Into the gentle beauty Of warm, wistful Wishes Dark caresses hearts With clouds Of reassuring prayers Prayed with thanksgiving For the waking moments When rays of sunlight Break through the Doubtful darkness In blooms of laughter Brilliant and vibrant As the light that lives In the heart love fills Open Poetry 3 Contest Sponsored by: Charlotte Puddifoot April 21, 2021

Oh my sweet friend, this is so deep and beautiful. One is in the dark without the Light. Your vibrant soulful imagery comes to vivid life upon the page and within my heart's imagination, such is the enchantment of your poetic pen, Gina. Indeed, light does live in a heart filled with love. Exquisite poetry, dear poetess. Congratulations for your excellent win in Charlotte's contest. Warmest wishes, love and hugs.. ~Susan

i really liked this one, some great imagery and alliteration "graying grim gorges"..rather long, but a good read to reach those two last lines that close the poem so wonderfully (just a couple of little typos/errors on line 31 'it's/its' and line 35 'breaths/breathes') - congrats on your win in my contest!

Even in your darkness, I read light... Must be a beautiful soul in the ink.
