In Memory

I found her in the morning laying, in her secret place. Oh, it was hard to see; my tears were falling and I was full of dread, I sent a prayer upwards with a wishful plea. My beautiful girl was dying! And I was shattered, through a haze of tears I kissed her head; and I held her in my arms till her last breath, whispering my love and pressed her to my heart. We stayed this way for a very, very long time, I sang her a lullaby. Oh, she had been a cat sublime; later, I buried her in her favorite place in the garden, I have no idea how long I sat there weeping; hours, hours, hours . . . returning for days, and still I go there to weep . . . ________________________________ October 20, 2020 Poetry/Verse/My Sweet Love Copyright Protected, ID 10-1296-601-20 All Rights Reserved, 2020, Constance La France "in memory of my old cat Smudge who passed at 20 years old"

Constance...a great Poem. I can relate. But a bit more morosely. My cat dropped ded in front of me four years ago. She was the best. There was no place to take her body. I rocked her, Sang to her for hours. Nice your cat lived so long. My first cat lived to 25 or 27" have had 20 cats in my lifetime. And still. 4 years later, "I still go there to weep"

So very very touching, Dear Heart. I felt this way about my Callie cat, who I tried to keep alive despite her dying of cancer, and finally I had to let her go. She will always be in your heart and in your poetry.

So sad, Constance. The emotion drips from each line. Pets are like children and to lose one can be earth shattering. I am sorry for your loss:(

Daniel, thank you for your comment and compassion. Pets do become like our children. I think that unconditional love they give us is like an extension of God. Smudge had been my mothers cat and I took her after my mother passed away and when Smudge died it felt like I lost my mother again. I may never get over her death, but now I have Snuggles Kitty to love, peace _Constance
