I'D
I’d….
I’d write to you of loneliness
of moonless weeping skies
and yet within abides that hope
of a sun destined to rise
I’d scribble on abandoned sand
of footprints washed away
of crashing waves and screeching gulls
reminders – it must be this way
I’d scar the trees with broken hearts
ignoring bark stripped pain
then sit with them in bloodless truce
tears blending with the rain
I’d hold scant memories – hands cupped
in shallow pretense of release
for if they stay – or if they go
I’ll never know a moment’s peace
