Icy New York Night
The New Year sill be here soon and the air
is frigid in Gotham
The winds are blowing and people outside
are all bundled up
Inside I pick up a pen
Write some reflections on this New York night
Spoke with old friends on the phone
And with a the women who is my muse
Now at night words come to me
and I begin this poem
I don't know how many of you
out there in the darkness
Also feel moved to write
Looking out of my window I see apartment lights and hear
the rush of traffic on the FDR drive
Thousands upon thousands of city dwellers are trying to stay warm and happy
in the frigid atmosphere
City lights cut through the shadows
In the apartment building I see through my window
People are living out their destinies
As I am - as all of you readers out there are
Happy New Year!
